The Healer by Dee Henderson

This is the third book I have read by Dee Henderson.  Each is named for the profession of one of 7 people who had come through the same foster system.  As children in the same group home, they had formed a “family.” The family provided support, help, advice, comfort and companionship to the members as they grew up.  When they could, they all changed their last names to O’Malley.  The first book I read was called, The Negotiator. Some of the careers of members of this family include – a Pediatrician (the healer – Jen), a policewoman negotiator (Kate), a psychologist (Rachel), and a Paramedic-Fireman (Steven).   Each book includes a mystery or adventure of sorts around one of the members of the family in their career role.  This book included a murder, a flood, and a shooting spree in a school.  One of the family members also dies in this book after a long fight against cancer.  It is easy to like these people – they are all servants, heroes and very likeable.  Most of them also have professed a faith in Christ.  This isn’t a major issue and doesn’t much affect the plot, but it helps set the background for their family and their relationships.  I enjoy the stories, the religious persuasion (nice to meet intelligent people of faith), the plots and the mysteries. I will read all of her books and recommend them all.
